Anita E. Carew
Anita Carew Anita Carew passed away on Oct. 7th, 2016, after a courageously fought three year battle with breast cancer. She died at home, peacefully, just hours after her sisters arrived from Sweden to be by her side. She was born, at home, to Aina and Emil Fredriksson on Oct. 1, 1946, in Kaskaloukt, Sweden, a small and remote village in Lapland. After living and working in Stockholm for five years, Anita came to California in 1966, as an au pair, with dreams of pursuing her singing career. Alone and with very little English, Anita had the good fortune to meet Beryl Bickers, an amazing woman who took her under her wing, providing food, shelter, education and a Iifetime of counsel and spiritual guidance. Anita began her career in the credit department at H. Liebes, an upscale Department store in downtown San Francisco. When the store closed in 1970, Anita moved next door to the Wells Fargo Union Trust Branch at Grant and Market St. Anita loved working in old downtown San Francisco in an era of class and civility, making many lifelong friends. Anita left Wells Fargo after 15 years, very proud of attaining the position of Asst. Operations Officer at the Commercial Loan Center. She later worked for several banks in San Rafael and Novato. Anita then found a part time job at Alamo Travel in Novato, through her friend and travel agent extraordinaire, Laureen Tallman. She had finally found her dream job, and loved working there for over ten years, with her friends and for her friends until the agency closed several years ago. While working at H. Liebes, Anita met her husband Tom on a blind date arranged by a co- worker. They were married a year later and spent the next 45 years in constant companionship in all of their activities. Anita loved music and dancing, good food and fine wine, French Champagne and her yearly vacations in Hawaii, on the Big Island and Maui. She also loved spending Christmas and New Years dinners with her closest and most loyal friend Biba and her husband Jim. In retirement, Anita and Tom frequently enjoyed lunches and events in wine country with fellow enthusiasts Dale and Kerstin. Anita is survived by a loving husband Tom, her loving sisters Annette (Kenneth) and Ritha (Lars), her niece Jessica (Rikard) and her family, and nephews Johann and Jonnie. She enjoyed Thanksgivings in Arizona with Tom's siblings, sister-in law Susan and brothers-in law Paul (Meg), Jerome (Lupe) and James (Laurie) and their families. A Celebration of Anita's Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice by the Bay, 17 E. Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Larkspur, Ca., 94939.
