(nee Kern), age 95. Beloved wife of the late Thomas; dear mother of Ronald (Nancy) and Thomas (Alita); grandmother of Richard (Deena),Debra, Lisa, Laura (David) Romanowski and Mary; great-grandmother of eight; daughter of the late Matt and Angela Kern; sister of Sylvia Dudas (Paul), deceased and Raymond Kern (deceased) (wife Joanne). Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Passed away Jan.12, 2017. Angie, as she was called, was a very active person and belonged to many organizations. Because she was proud of her Slovenian roots, she joined a juvenile singing club at age 10. The group was called Skrjanci (a certain type of bird) and she stayed with the group until the age of 16. From there she joined the Jadran Singing Society in Collinwood until its demise in 2004. She took a few years off to be with her young sons. While they were in grade school, she joined the Mother Singers and the P.T.A. Angie belonged to the American Slovene Club where she held the office of President and Recording Secretary. Although she was Catholic, she was picked to sing in a Presbyterian choir. After her marriage in 1941 and the birth of her first son she decided to go to White Cross Beauty School and became a hairdresser. She worked in several shops until she owned her own for several years. She belonged to many groups; The Progressive Slovene Women, Waterloo Pensioners and the Ladies Auxiliary of Waterloo where she was very active. She also helped with the Friday night fish fries at Slovenian Workman's Home on Waterloo for many years. During this time she started to golf. Her husband spent hours teaching her. It did pay off because she had several club championships and scored a hole in one. She and her husband spent many days golfing. They loved traveling to Texas where Tom's family lived until they moved to Wisconsin. She liked to visit her sister in California and she went to Slovenia with Jadran four times and performed concerts. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial Monday, Jan. 16 at St. John Vianney Church at 9:30 a.m. Interment All Souls Cemetery. Family will receive friends at BRICKMAN BROS. FUNERAL HOME, 37433 EUCLID AVE., (WILLOUGHBY), SUNDAY 4-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions to American Cancer Society, 10501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44106, would be appreciated.
