Amelia Elizabeth Benninghoff July 05, 1927 - Feb. 11, 2017 SOUTH BEND - Amelia Elizabeth Benninghoff, 89, a longtime resident of German Township, died at Hamilton Grove Communities in New Carlisle on Saturday, February 11, 2017. Born in Mishawaka, IN to the latest Ernest and Olga (Wader) Eberly, she was one of nine children and lived her entire life in the area. Amelia attended Mishawaka High School until the death of her mother, whereupon she went to live with an older sister in Bremen and graduated from high school there. She met the love of her life, Harold Dean Benninghoff, while he was home on leave from the Navy. After World War II, she and Dean were married and had three children, Jeane (Pat) Kush, of South Bend; Janet (Greg) Heckber, of Herndon, Va.; and Greg (Chris) Benninghoff of Berrien Center, Mich.; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Amelia worked various jobs over the years, at Sears, Notre Dame Federal Credit Union and, AAA Federal Credit Union. She enjoyed people and made many friends and social acquaintances through her work. Amelia enjoyed gardening and traveling, whether it was a business trip or one of the many trips she and her husband, Dean, made through his work with the athletic department at the University of Notre Dame. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Northwest United Methodist Church, 21855 Brick Road, South Bend, IN where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be at Riverview Mausoleum.
