Alphonse LaTorre AGE: 92 • formerly of Somerdale Alphonse "Blackie" LaTorre, 92, formerly of Somerdale, N.J., died peacefully in his sleep at the home of his daughter, Donna Thomas, of Turnersville, N.J. He was the beloved husband of the late Alice (nee Ray) LaTorre. Devoted father of Donna Thomas, Karen LaTorre, Denise Rasmussen (Gary Rasmussen) and the late Gerry Mariano. Loving grandfather of Robert Thomas (Denise), Nicole Ciccio, (Tony), Jennifer Chilla, (Pat), Michael LaTorre, Ryan Mariano, and the late Jamie Thomas. And Great - grandfather to seven Great - grandchildren. Alphonse was born on March 14, 1924 at the home of his parents , Antonio and Josephine (Zarrelli) LaTorre on Point St. in the city of Camden N.J. He served with distinction in the Navy Armed Guard during W.W. I I, as a ships gunner. Later in life he joined the Cement Masons Union #699, out of Camden, N.J., where he worked as a Mason. After some time he was elected as the Unions business agent and also president. The main focus during his official capacity as business agent and president was taking care of the men, and making sure they had their benefits and had plenty of work. Because of his ardent labors on their behalf, he gained the respect of the Union members, many of whom he called friend. In his off time, Blackie was an avid fisherman and a loving and generous person. Your memory will live on in our hearts forever. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday evening Oct. 21, 2016, from 7 PM to 9 PM and Saturday, Oct. 22 from 9 AM - 10 AM at Henry Funeral Home, 152 W. Atlantic Ave. Audubon, N.J. 08106. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 AM at the Funeral Home. Entombment immediately following at Bethel Memorial Park, Pennsauken, N.J
