Alma Hawkins Satterfield, 96, of Fairmont went to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at St. Barbara's Memorial Nursing Home in Monongah. She was born on October 29, 1919 in Fairmont a daughter of the late J. Guy and Nelle Harden Hawkins.
She graduated from Fairmont Senior High School in 1937 and attended West Virginia Business College. She had been employed at Gill Tire Company and Marion County Board of Education as a secretary.
She was a member of Valley Chapel United Methodist Church and was active with the Circle I of the church. She was also a member of East â€“West Craft Club, Town and Country Garden Club and the Marion County Board of Education Retired Secretaries. Alma and her husband spent many enjoyable winters in Florida at the Sanford Twelve Oaks Camp Ground.
She is survived by her daughter Karen Watkins of Pleasant Valley; one daughter-in-law Diane Satterfield of Lavalette; three grandchildren Ryan Satterfield and his wife Rochelle of Fairmont, Rhonda Gwyn of Mt. Airy, North Carolina and Robyn Brooks of Boothsville; four great grandchildren and one great - great grandchild.
In addition, she is survived by a sister-in-law Doris Stanley of Columbus, North Carolina; a special niece Carol Tinnell of Fairmont and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Earl R. Satterfield who passed away on May 9, 1988, two sons David Satterfield and Ronald L. Satterfield; a son-in-law Ronald Watkins; one brother Thomas Hawkins; and one sister Sara Swiger.
Family and Friends may call at the Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
