In memory of
Alice Jane Zitzer
Alice Jane Zitzer, 95, formerly of Salford, PA and Dade City, FL, passed away peacefully at her Harleysville residence on October 17, 2016. Alice was a long time member of Tabor United Methodist Church. Alice Jane Weatherby, the daughter of Frank and Nellie James Weatherby, was born on October 13, 1921, on a dairy farm in Chautauqua County in western New York. Alice started school at age 4 and walked with her brother, Edwin, to a one room school house. Alice graduated from high school at age 15. Alice went to college in Maryville, Tenn. and graduated with a science degree at age 19. She attended USO dances in Hampton, Virginia where she met the love of her life, Edmund F. Zitzer. Ed and Alice were married on Nov. 23, 1943, just before he went overseas to serve as a medic in the Army for 3 years. When Ed returned, they moved to Montgomery County to be closer to family. Alice worked as a school teacher until her two children, Phyllis and Terry were born. After the girls were in school, Alice returned to work at the Montgomery County Youth Center, and was a Girl Scout leader in her spare time. She retired in October 1985 to travel the country with Ed. They visited each state at least twice in a succession of trailers and motor homes. They spent 6 months a year in an Airstream Trailer community near Dade City, Florida (Travelers Rest), for over 23 years, and always enjoyed returning to their home in the spring along the Perkiomen Creek in Salford. Never idle, Alice was always active in her church, she was an avid square dancer, and enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, camping and boating. Alice found happiness in her family and the friends she made enjoying laughter in the good times shared with others over the years. Alice’s spirit and never-ending appreciation for her faith and the Lord have brought her to her eternal home. Her prayers have been answered. God has her in his arms and we have her in our hearts forever. Alice is survived by daughters Phyllis J. Zitzer of Harrisburg, and Teresa S. Hasson and her husband, Timothy F., of Perkiomenville; two granddaughters, Denise M. Miller and Carol A. Cassidy and her husband, Chris E., and four great grandsons, Benjamin and Zachary Miller and Braden and Colin Cassidy. A memorial service will be held on November 26 at Tabor UMC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to Tabor UMC, 2209 Hendricks Station Road, Woxall, PA 18979 or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by the R. L.
