ALTON - Alice L. Tolbert, 80, made her transition at 11:33 a.m. on Friday October 14, 2016, at home surrounded by her family. She was born June 24, 1936, in Alton, Illinois. She was the daughter of the late Fred and Alice (North) Skinner. Alice was a student of the Alton School District. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late John L. Tolbert on March 13, 1953, in Alton, Illinois. Alice was employed with the Alton School District for 27 years until she retired. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Tolbert of 57 years; daughter, Angela; loving aunt, Susie Singleton; brother, Fred Skinner; sisters, Dorothy (Carl) Farrar, Edna (Eli) Collier, Loretta Chapman and Mary McCoy; brothers-in-law, James (Ella), Earl, Eugene, Alfred and Leroy Talbert, Jerry and Andy Dear. She leaves to embrace precious and lasting memories with her children: Cathy Tolbert, Sharon (Paul) Willis, John Jr., Richard, Ronald (Becky), Anthony Tolbert and Lori Ann Brown; grandchildren: Kirista and Carlita Tolbert, Tiana Griggs Anderson, Cory Willis, Carrie (Damon) Womack of Alton, Illinois, Carlton (Vanessa) Quarrels of Converse, Texas, Toni (Lee Von) Perry of Wood River, Illinois, and Ashley Brown of Alton, Illinois; great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lois (William) Quinn and Shirley Cole of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Pearl Talbert of Alton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Holy Mass at 10 a.m., Saturday Oct. 22, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, with Father John Paul as celebrant. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. Cathy M. Williams & Sons Funeral in Alton.
