In memory of
Alice Bullock Nichols
Nichols, Alice Bullock, passed away, October 16, 2016. She was born March 26, 1934 and was the daughter of Thomas and Mamie Bullock, sister of Nancy Bullock Rothinghouse, deceased, and Anita Bullock Smiley. Alice lived in Owensboro, Kentucky for her childhood years and moved back to Louisville attending Atherton High School and then Centre College where she met James Nichols, her beloved husband of 60 years. Jim's job as a chemical engineer took them to Brevard, North Carolina where their three dearest daughters, Martha Osborn (John), Nancy Ferguson (Mark) and Judy Schroeder (Mark) were born. Throughout the years Alice combined family life with her favorite hobby, playing the piano. It was a lifelong activity and took her many places: accompanying a dancing school as well as playing for weddings, nursing homes, singalongs, banquets, fashion shows, parties, church events and country clubs. The type of music was diverse but Alice particularly specialized in playing popular music of the past 50 years. A member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, she served as an Elder, Chairman of the Deacons, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and leader of a Women's Circle. She and Jim enjoyed traveling to many countries and taking cruises. Politics was always of great interest as well as being an enthusiastic sports fan. Six adored grandchildren survive: Sarah and Johnny Osborn, Lexington, KY; Ashley and Rachel Ferguson, Ashburn, VA; and James and Andrew Schroeder, Austin, TX. Other family members include four nieces, a great-niece and great-nephew. Through the years, fifteen beagles have also been part of the family at various times. Memorial service 2 pm Friday at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 2501 Rudy Lane, with a reception to follow. Visitation 3-6 pm Thursday at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane. Memorial contributions can be made to Calvin Presbyterian Church, 2501 Rudy Ln. Louisville, KY
