Albert Samuel Savino, 95, passed away October 13, 2016 at the Haven in the Village at Carolina Place in Pineville, NC, where he has resided since 2009. Al was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 13, 1921, to the late Michael and Grace Savino. He grew up in Ocean View, NJ. He was a Veteran of World War II, serving as Boatswain Mate 1st Class in the U.S. Navy. He located to Charlotte, NC where he began a long career at the Barringer Hotel working up from Bellman to Manager. Ultimately, he worked for and retired from Plaza Associates of Chapel Hill, where he managed various apartment complexes and commercial/retail properties. While in Jacksonville, he was a long standing and active member of the Jacksonville New River Lions Club, a passion he maintained until moving to the Haven. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Thompson Savino along with his parents, his brothers, Carl, Nicholas, Joseph, Frank, John, Louis, Peter, as well as his sisters, Mary Mazzarella and Christine Gabriel. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Desilva, his sons, Robert Desilva and Jerry Savino, Patricia Savino (Jerry's mother), and many nieces and nephews. Hankins & Whittington Funeral Home in Charlotte and Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville are serving the family.
