In memory of
Albert Marcey
Mr. Albert Henry Marcey of Gaithersburg, formerly of Frederick, Maryland, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Born June 9, 1926, in Arlington, Virginia, he was the son of the late Walter A. Marcey and Virgie Rhoderick Marcey. Mr. Marcey was the husband of Mignon Nichols Marcey for fifty-three years. At three weeks of age his mother passed away, at which time he immediately moved to Frederick, Maryland to live with his grandparents. He graduated from Frederick High School in 1943, soon thereafter enlisting in the US Army to serve his country during World War Two, and was assigned to the Carnegie Institute of Technology, in Pittsburgh, PA. Later, he took Field Artillery training at Fort Bragg, NC, and Fort Sill, OK, specializing in communications. Upon completion of training, he then served overseas in Germany with the 78th Infantry Lightning Division. After returning home from WWII, he enrolled in the University of Maryland from which he graduated in 1950. Upon graduation he started working at the Central Intelligence Agency, where he served for 24 years. During his time at the CIA he served in the Korean War, then later in Latin America and Africa. Mr. Marcey received the CIA Certificate of Merit for his contributions in the intelligence field. Mr. Marcey became a Christian in 1973, and dedicated his life to serving the Lord. He was a loving father and grandfather. For many years, Mr. Marcey was active in bowling, softball, and he enjoyed fishing and hiking. He was a member of the Francis Scott Key, Post 11 American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a past member of the Sons of the American Revolution. For over twenty years, Mr. Marcey organized and served the Lord by spreading the gospel at the Montgomery County Fair, distributing gospel tracts, discussing matters of faith and giving out "cups of cold water in Jesus' name." He cultivated an interest in current events, history and writing. With a fertile mind, he dispensed wit and wisdom to those around him as he shared his love of Christ. Mr. Marcey is survived by his wife, Mig, and his three daughters, Cynthia Peter (Stan), Valerie Denson (Bryan), Melanie Petersen (Mike) and seven grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the Keeney & Basford Funeral Home, 106 E. Church Street, Frederick. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, April 20th at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Frederick Rescue Mission, 419 W. South St., Frederick, MD 21701. Condolences may be shared with family at www.keeneybasford.com
