Albert Azaro Jul. 20, 1921 - Oct. 16, 2016 Albert Azaro, a generous and loving Husband, Father, Grandpa & Bis Papa passed away Oct 16 surrounded by his family. A resident of Orinda for 58 years, Bert was 95. Born Bartolomeo Azaro in Genoa, Italy in 1921 to Luigi Azaro and Maria Boggiano, he came to America in 1936 residing in Oakland with his Aunt and Uncle, Mary and Baci Boggiano. During WWII by a decree of Court for Naturalization, his named changed from Bartolomeo to Albert Azaro. He began working as a baker in 1940 for Colombo French Bread Company. In August, 1943 he enlisted in the Army Air Core as an Aerial Engineer flying on C -54 airplanes. Honorably discharged in 1944 he returned to Colombo French Bread Company as a baker and subsequently became a partner in the company acquiring Toscana and Parisian Bakeries. For the next 40 years he made the finest Sour Dough French Bread in the Bay Area, that made the bakeries famous. In 1952 he married the woman of his dreams, Geraldine and they lived in Oakland until moving to Orinda in 1958 to raise their family. He was a long time member of the Colombo Club, Hayward Sirs, and for 58-years a parishioner of Santa Maria Church in Orinda. After retirement his favorite past time was golf, traveling all over the world, and he continued to make sour dough bread and rolls, pizza's, panetone's, for his family and friends and communion bread for the church. Bert is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Geraldine, his daughter Diane Barbera-DeLany (Rich) of Lafayette, Granddaughters', Beth O'Connor, (Pete), Jenny Calegari, (Brian), Holly Hong, (Anhtuan) and Emily Barbera. His Great Grandchildren Jack & Hannah O'Connor and Adrianna Calegari, his sister Lina Azaro of Italy and many nieces & nephews in Italy. He is predeceased by his son Bruce Azaro, 3 three sisters Angiolina, Delina all of Sestri Levante Italy and Lisa Buzzalino of Oakland, CA. Visitation will be held Thursday, October. 20, from 4:00-6:00PM with a Liturgy of the Word following at Hull's Mortuary, Walnut Creek. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of Santa Maria, Santa Maria Way in Orinda Friday, October 21 at 10:30 AM with burial following at St. Joseph Cemetery, San Pablo.
