Monica Jackson King died on May 16, 2012 at a hospital in Topeka, Kansas from complications following surgery. Monica received credentials as a registered nurse from Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO, and worked as a R.N. in Topeka, St. Louis and San Francisco, CA. Monica was a national bestselling author with nine novels, eight novellas, and numerous short stories published by Kensington Press, Arabesque, Harpers, Dafina and Pinnacle Press. She recently offered her updated line of books as E-Books. Her first novel Midnight Blue, was produced as a BET television movie of the week in 2000. Monica won the Romantic Times Reviewer's Choice award, Romance in Color's Award of Excellence Award, Romantic Times Top Pick (6 times), Romantic Times Gold Medal 4 1/2 star rating (2 times), Romantic Times 4 1/2 star rating (5 times), and Romance in Color's Reviewer's Choice Award. She appeared on several radio and television programs, gave numerous writing workshops, appeared in television spots and was featured in People magazine. She traveled extensively in South America and Asia prior to becoming a mother. Monica was born in Arkansas City, KS on September 24, 1959. She is survived by her daughter Amethyst Rose King of the home and her parents Ustaine Talley (Denver CO) and Wendell Cordell Jackson (Ella) (Ofallon MO). She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents George Cordell Jackson (Louise) and Dorothy Jackson and maternal grandparents, Carl and Della Talley. Monica was married in 1995 to Harold King, Atlanta, GA. They are divorced. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Unity Church of Christianity, 9126 SW 10th St. Topeka, KS and will be followed by a reception at 3:00 p.m. at the Club House Inn, 924 SW Henderson Road in Topeka (near 10th and Wanamaker).
