Merl G. "Red" Gatlin
Merl "Red" G. Gatlin Silver City - Merl "Red" G. Gatlin, 86, formerly of Hurley passed away on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces. A Graveside Service with military honors will take place on Friday, February 7, 2020 at one o'clock in the afternoon at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. "Red" has he affectionately was known, was born on November 9, 1933 to Lee J. Gatlin and Evelyne McDonald in Clifton, Arizona. He was married to Beulah Mary Fisher and they were together for 59 years. Red worked at Kennecott Copper Mines for over 30 years and NASA for ten years. He loved to fish, hunt and spend his time outdoors. Red also spent his time coaching Little League and being a volunteer fireman in Hurley. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Red is survived by his wife, Beulah Gatlin; two sons, Michael Gatlin (Barbara) and Glen Gatlin (Melissa); two brothers, Richard Gatlin (Dolores) and Cole Gatlin (June); sister, Sandy Oakes (Jim); six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
