TITO, Mel Mel Tito, age 85, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019. He was born in Oakland, CA, on December 5, 1934. He graduated from Fremont High School and attended Oakland City College before being drafted into the U.S. Army where he served two years. He moved to Denver, CO, in 1966 where he began a long career in life insurance sales. He met his future wife, Mary Elizabeth (M.E.) Hodges while in Denver. They were married on June 24th, 1972, in Longview, TX., and celebrated their 47th anniversary last year. Mel and M.E. relocated to Dallas in 1975. Mel was a General Agent for Kentucky Central Life Insurance. He also worked selling health insurance and eventually owned his own Property and Casualty Agency. He and M.E. opened A Teacher's Aide, an educational supply store, in 1994 and operated it for 14 years. One of the things Mel enjoyed most in life was spending time at Cedar Creek Lake with friends and family. He also enjoyed tennis, golf, traveling and attending Dallas Maverick games. He always looked forward to the annual trip to Lake Tahoe to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, M.E. Tito; daughter, Debbie Pombo of Modesto, CA; daughter-in-laws; Michelle Whitsitt of Martinez, CA and Toni Whitsitt of San Leandro, CA; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; Della and Robert Whitsitt; sons, Bobby and Randy Whitsitt; sister, Julie White and brother, Walter. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Arden Court Memory Care and Pathway Hospice for the care, love and respect given to Mel. A memorial service will be held in Mel's honor at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home (10501 Garland Road, Dallas, TX 75218) on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to: The Alzheimer's Association of Greater Dallas, 3001 Knox Street, Suite 200, Dallas, TX 75205.
