Mack Arthur Hardy
Mack Arthur Hardy peacefully transitioned in his home on August 27, 2018. Born in Cleveland County on April 25, 1945, he was the son of the late Lum Hardy and Viola Eskridge Hardy. He received his high school diploma from Cleveland High School in 1964 and later earned his electrician's certification from Catawba College. Drafted into the United States Army, Mack rose to the rack of Sargent E5 as a member of the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers and received his honorary discharge in 1969. Continuing his passion for education, Mack attended Cleveland Community College and graduated from Livingstone College in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. While attending Cleveland High School, Mack met his high school sweetheart Brenda Paulette Dorsey. They were married in 1965 and began a life journey together that has lasted over 52 years. Mack held several jobs in his life most notably at Gillette's Florist, Drexel Heritage Furniture and Fiber Industries/Hoechst Celanese from which he retired after 31 years of service. In addition to his parents, Mack is preceded in death by his sister, Minnie Hardy Corpening; and two brothers, Z. L. Hardy and John L. Hardy. Left to cherish Mack's memory are his wife Brenda; a brother, Luther Louis Hardy of Washington DC; a sister, LuLena Hardy London of Shelby and his two sons Spencer Lavont Hardy (Melanie) of Winston-Salem, NC and Vincent Lamont Hardy (Vicky) of Shelby. Additional survivors are his grandchildren Ivy Hardy, Gavin Hardy, Evan Hardy, Ava Hardy of Winston-Salem; Katelyn Hardy, Vincent Hardy, Jr., Breanna Hardy, and Jayluan Hardy of Shelby, one great grandchild Vincent Hardy III and 3 step- grandchildren, Colton Williams, Kyra Lilienthal, and Chloe Lilienthal and a host of nieces, nephews and extended relatives. Additional Special friends in Mack's life were Willie Joe Gaston, Arthur Woods (Hazel) deceased, and Bobby Burris. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 4:30 PM at Faith Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Anthony Negbenebor officiating. Burial will take place at Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until 4:30 PM on Saturday and at other times at the home. Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloemortuary.com.
