Lydia "Lily" Gonzalez
Lydia (Lily) Gonzalez, age 66, after battling cancer passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on September 9, 2018. Lily was born to Eduardo G. and Paula Lopez Gonzalez on August 18, 1952. Lily attended St Joseph Catholic School, Memorial Junior High and graduated from William Adams High School in 1970. She was a cheerleader and a member of the pep squad. She had the honor of being voted Junior Duchess in 1968. After graduation, Lily studied cosmetology and received her license. She then worked for Christus Spohn Hospital for 37 years in various departments. She volunteered as a sacristan and reader for the chapel. She also helped organize several hospital events. After retirement she was employed by Rushing and Gonzalez Pharmacy assisting customers with her friendly demeanor. Lily loved and lived life to the fullest. She traveled extensively, enjoyed dancing and singing to the oldies as she owned a varied collection of music. Lily loved to get together with family and friends and never failed to support her nieces and nephews in their endeavors. She often organized and attended family gatherings or social events to include Chalupa, Bingo, Pokeno and other games. Lily was all about laughter, a party and a good time. Lily was preceded in death by her parents and a loving sister, Olga G. Villarreal. Survivors include sisters, Gloria (Bobby) Ramirez, Elia Gonzalez, Nora Ester (Tony) Avila, Paula (Polly) Gonzalez, Elma Gonzalez and Carmela Lopez all from Alice and Delia (Jim) Hale from Fort Worth, Texas. Nieces and nephews, Monica Ramirez (Alfie) Ramos from Kingsville, TX., Robert Edward (RE) (Catherine) Ramirez, Miguel Avila, Mia Avila, Marcos Avila all from Austin, TX., and Audrey Garza and Esteban Villarreal from Alice, TX. Visitation will be held Wednesday September 12, 2018 at 5:00 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 P.M. on Thursday September 13, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Services will conclude at the Church after Mass. Rosas Funeral Home entrusted with arrangements
