Leonard F. Carey
Leonard F. Carey ELKTON, FLA.- Leonard F. Carey of Elkton, Fla., formerly of Saugerties, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012, of a sudden heart attack. He resided in Rochester for 6 to 7 years while working for Big Blue. Len was born May 31, 1941, in Trenton, N.J., the youngest of seven children. After attending Trenton Catholic schools, he served in the U.S. Navy including a stint aboard Kitty Hawk off the coast of Northern Calif. On May 4, 1968, he married Florence V. Ward of Edison, N.J., and they stayed together right up to the end. Leonard worked for I.B.M. as a programmer until the 1990s and then found plenty of temp work reprogramming machines and saving us all from the impending Y2K doom/disaster. He loved: 1) Florence, 2) his four children, 3) golfing, 4) golfing, and 5) more golf activity. He was an amazing golfer, a great dad and 100% Irish on top of it all. In addition to N.J. and Rochester, he resided in upstate New York (Saugerties and Wappingers), Jacksonville, Fla. and Elkton-St. Augustine. He is survived by his wife, his children (Kevin, Darlene, Dan and Jennifer), his granddaughter Amber Wasser, two brothers and several Jersey nieces and nephews who have thick East Coast accents and love Italian food. He was proceeded in death by his parents, a sister and three brothers. He will be buried in a Veteran's cemetery near St. Augustine. A small service will be held at St. Ambrose Church on Monday, May 21, 2012. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. with a reception following at 4:30 p.m.
