Lehman D. Tolliver III
Celebrating the Life of Senior Master Sergeant Lehman D. Tolliver III Lehman D. Tolliver III was born on Aug. 7, 1953. He was the first born son of the late Lehman D. Tolliver Sr. and Marie Tolliver Jones. Lehman was part of a large, loving family and grew up with his brothers and sisters in Byhalia, Miss. In 1971, Lehman graduated from Byhalia High School, then immediately joined the U.S. Air Force. In 1997, Lehman completed his Air Force career after attaining the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and serving our country for 26 years and 11 days. As a child, he learned to work on cars from his father and during his tenure as an Air Force Serviceman he excelled, achieving the responsibility of an Aerospace Propulsion Superintendent. Soon after retiring, Lehman returned to college and received his Bachelors of Arts in accounting. In 1977, Lehman met the love of his life and shared 41 years with Dr. Debra Ann Tolliver, Psy.D. This union resulted in the birth of two wonderful children: Matoyia Denice Jones of Denver, Colo., and Lehman David Cypean Ricard Tolliver IV of Anchorage, Alaska. On Aug. 28, 2018, Lehman lost his battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and departed from this life in the comfort of his home in Anchorage. Lehman is survived by his mother-in-law, Maggie Staples of Gary, Ind.; four brothers, Keith K. Tolliver Sr. (Vanessa), Kenneth D. Jones (Steveann), James N. Jones Sr. (Barbara) and Lin C. Jones Sr. (Jacqueline); four brothers-in-law, William Elliott of Gary, Ind., Charles and Calhoun Hampton of St. Louis, Mo., and Donnie R. Elliott of Fairfield, Calif.; five sisters, Deborah A. Tolliver-Cole, Cheryl R. McKinney, Kim Washington (Bill) and Wendy Jones-Sain (Desmond), all of Memphis, Tenn., and Irene Phillips (Walter) of Olive Branch, Miss.; two sisters-in-law, Daphne Staples of Gary, Ind., and Darlene Charleston of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren, Cameron D. Tolliver V (Tismee Garrett) of Leesville, La., and Dewayne L. Tolliver (Mary McCartney) of Roswell, Ga.; special friends, Lloyd Elliott of Gary, Ind., Barry and Anna Walks, Jed and Lynne Weingarten, Rick and Sue Ballew, Jamie Schmitt, Matt Eberhardt and Ruth Bratz; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and family friends. He is preceded in death by his father-in-law, Rueben Staples; and sister, Renee Yvette Jones. Lehman's attention to detail was legendary. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Air Force never left him, as friends and family will attest. "Without the brave efforts of all the soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and their families, this Nation, along with our allies around the world, would not stand so boldly, shine so brightly and live so freely." - Lane Allen Evans, American politician
