Mackey, Kurt 10/12/1968 - 8/5/2019 Grand Rapids, MI Kurt Robert Mackey, age 50 of Rockford, MI, died unexpectedly on Monday, August 5, 2019 with his family and friends by his side. He is survived by his wife Cindy Mackey (Hempel) of 22 years, his sisters May Ann Reinhardt, Kathleen Ritter, Peggy (Ron Kaczynski) Mackey, Lisa (Kandie Cozart) Gillett, his brothers Paul (Janet) Mackey, Mike (Terri) Mackey, his Uncle Bob (Barb) Vogel and Uncle Kyren Gunn. Several nephews, nieces, and cousins, Many, many friends, often referred to as "family". He was preceded in death by his mother, Geraldine Mackey. He loved all sports, especially football and loved the Muskegon Big Reds, University of Michigan, and the Detroit Lions. He also loved music and played the trombone in Sam's Swing Band, Rockford Community Band and Orchestra, and the Sparta Community Theatre. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 11:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Consolation Church, 4865 11 Mile Rd NE, Rockford, MI 49341. We invite family and friends to gather before the funeral at 10:30 AM to share stories and celebrate the life of Kurt Mackey. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to The Big Red Leaders of Muskegon Public Schools in c/o Big Red Athletic Foundation, Exalta Health, or University of Wisconsin Transplant and Organ Donation Services.
