Katherine Marie (Klasky) Hokans
Katherine Marie (Klasky) Hokans, age 87, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2017, at her residence in Tucson, Arizona. She was born in Chicago, IL on July 30, 1930, the youngest of nine children. During her high school years, she traveled with her mother to live in Portland, OR, Tombstone, AZ, and Bisbee, AZ where she grew fond of the desert southwest. After returning to Chicago she graduated from Schurz High School and began her career as a bookkeeper. While working in downtown Chicago she met Arvo Edwin Hokans, and they married on June 16, 1951. After living in Illinois and Indiana, they moved in 1970 with their three children to Tucson. Katherine enjoyed giving her time in community service including volunteer work at hospitals in Naperville, IL, and later at University Medical Center in Tucson. She was a member of Saint Odilia Catholic Church where she sang in the choir. Bright and young-at-heart, she loved writing, cooking, keeping up with trends and learning new skills. Katherine was a devoted mother and wife who cared deeply for her extended family and friends. Katherine and Arvo enjoyed 58 years of marriage until his death in 2009. Katherine is dearly missed by her children, Jeffery Hokans of Tucson, Christine Hokans (Rick Knaggs) in San Diego, and Diane Hokans (Thomas Harrop) in Denver.
