June V. Erickson, 94, died July 4, 2018, at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile, MN. June was born on June 19, 1924 at the farm home in Garfield Township, Fertile, MN. Her parents were Emil and Clara (Kaste) Erickson. She lived most of her life on the family farm homesteaded by her grandfather with the exception of the years she spent in college. She moved into Fair Meadow Assisted Living Apartments in Fertile in 2014. June was a lifetime member of the Little Norway Church. She taught Sunday School and vacation Bible school for numerous years. She sang in the church choir and also sang in a family duet and a family quartet. She served as president of the WELCA for ten years and always enjoyed the circle Bible studies. Worship services, women's organizations and church activities were cherished by June. June attended the rural Lakeview School for her elementary education. She graduated from Fertile High School and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and her Masters degree in administration at Moorhead State University. She was involved in the education field for 44 years. She taught seven years in rural one- room schools in the area and then was a classroom teacher and later an administrator in Mentor. She came to the Fertile-Beltrami School as a director of special services and later assumed the position of elementary principal. June especially enjoyed teaching kindergarten and first grade. Unlocking the printed word and helping children learn to read and enjoy reading was a joy for her. Classroom teaching was her first love in education. June had many hobbies including reading, crafts, gardening, cooking and baking. Baking Norwegian delicacies was something June truly enjoyed. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage. She spoke mainly Norwegian until she started school. She read Norwegian and enjoyed singing Norwegian songs. She daily prayed the Lord's Prayer in Norwegian. June was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brother, 2 sisters, and 3 sister-in-law: Clifford and Bernice Erickson, Gilman Erickson, Arnold and Ida Erickson, Mildred and John Swanson and Evelyn Erickson. She is survived by a sister-in-law: Caroline Erickson, eight nieces and nephews, numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews and many great-grand-nieces and great-grand-nephews. Funeral Service: 11:00am Monday, July 9, 2018, at Little Norway Lutheran Church, Fertile, MN. Visitation: Erikson-Vik-Ganje Funeral Home Chapel, Fertile, MN, Sunday, July 8, 2018, 7-8:30pm with a prayer service at 8:00.
