In memory of
June Elizabeth (Hoffman) Cafiso
June Elizabeth (Hoffman) Cafiso, 79, of St. Augustine, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Hospice of the Valley's Ryan House in Phoenix, Ariz., on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014. June was born on June 1, 1934, in Queens, N.Y. She was the daughter of Everett V. Hoffman and Dorothy Hoffman of Jamaica, Queens. June was raised in the Catholic faith and graduated in 1952 from the prestigious Catholic school Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica, N.Y. She won a scholarship to train as a secretary in the business world and then worked for American Airlines in Manhattan. In 1955, she married an Air Force lieutenant, Matthew Michael Cafiso, and for the next 24 years, she traveled around the United States, raising their family and supporting her husband as he rose in the ranks to be a colonel. They divorced in 1979. June went on to have a successful career in Atlanta, Ga., at Abercrombie & Fitch, when it was still an elite sporting goods store. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, birding, art and music, and was a movie fanatic. In fact, in her final days, she may not have known the date but without fail, knew the names of movie stars like Ingrid Bergman, Charles Boyer and Joseph Cotten in the 1944 classic, "Gaslight," when it came on in her Hospice room. She is preceded in death by her parents and ex-husband. June is survived by her son, Michael J. Cafiso, and his wife, Cattryn Somers (Paradise Valley, Ariz.); her son, Matthew M. Cafiso II, and his wife, Susan Cafiso (St. Augustine, Fla.); her son, Curtis E. Cafiso, and his wife, Mary Borsani (St. Petersburg, Fla.); and her daughter, Laura M. Cafiso (Phoenix, Ariz.). She was ever proud of her two grandchildren, Matthew M. Cafiso III and Christine A. Cafiso. A family celebration of her life and scattering of ashes will take place on Camelback Mountain in Paradise Valley, Ariz. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations are made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014 or online at www.hov.org/donate , in her name.
