In memory of
Jonas Treska
Treska, Jonas Treska, Jonas, age 98, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday morning surrounded by his family. Jonas was born in Linkuva, Lithuania and led an extraordinary life. At the age of 24, he fled his native Lithuania as soviet troops invaded, saying goodbye to his parents and four of his siblings. He spent a few years in a displaced persons camp in Germany before immigrating to Canada. He met his future wife, Ona, on a visit to Grand Rapids, and began a long distance relationship with her until they married in 1956 and settled in Grand Rapids. Jonas lived a very principled life. He had an unwavering belief in God and devotion to his Catholic Christian faith, he loved his family with his entire being, he was enormously proud of his Lithuanian heritage, and he had a strong, hard and honest work ethic. Jonas instilled these values in his children. He was preceded in death by his wife Ona in 2014; his parents, Jonas and Ona; and siblings Juozas, Elena, the Reverend Antanas, Vale, Dr. Stase, and Felicija. Jonas will be lovingly remembered by his children, Lucille (Paul) Duggan, John Treska, Teresa (Ron) Bode, Peter Treska; grandchildren, Alex (Paula) Duggan, Erika Duggan, Alissa (Peter) Alkema, Megan (Michael) York, Auste Treska, Saule Treska; great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Isabella, Clara, and Declan Alkema, Hailey and Lawson York; many nieces and nephews in the United States and Lithuania. Mass of the Christian burial will be offered on Saturday, February 9, 10:00 AM at SS Peter & Paul Church. Interment SS Peter & Paul Cemetery. Friends and relatives may meet the family at Barto Funeral Home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, where a Rosary will be prayed starting at 7:30. Barto Funeral Home 616 454-9284
