John P. "Jack" Thompson
John P. "Jack" Thompson, 87, a resident of Andover, Mass., since 1960 and beloved husband of the late Sarah Jane Burke Thompson, passed away peacefully Dec. 29 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill, Mass. Born in Mahanoy City, he was a beloved son of the late John H. and Helen McCabe Thompson. He was also the brother of the late Robert C. Thompson. He enlisted in the Army at 17 and was assigned to General MacArthur's headquarters in Japan at the end of World War II. After leaving the Army, he attended the Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1953. Jack retired as chief cost and financial analyst for New England Motor Bureau. In his spare time, Jack loved photography, model airplanes, painting, attending plays and musicals and helping his neighbors. He was also a father figure to many children over the years in his neighborhood. In his younger days he enjoyed playing the saxophone. Above all, Jack was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed. Jack is survived by a loving daughter, Amy J. Size and her husband, Paul V. Size II, Edgartown, Mass.; sister, Helen Mary Thompson, Pennsylvania; grandson, Kai Size; nieces and nephews; his dear friend, Nell Saracusa, North Andover, Mass. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex St., Andover. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 N. Main St., Andover. Interment will be held in St. Augustine Cemetery, Andover.
