John L. Knoble Jr. BRIDGEWATER, NJ John L. Knoble Jr., 91, passed away Feb. 19, 2018. John was born and raised in Phillipsburg, NJ. He was the son of the late Elsie and John Knoble, Sr. He was formerly of Scotch Plains, NJ, before moving to Bridgewater in 1967. John graduated from Duke University with a bachelor's degree in engineering, and was a lifelong Duke sports enthusiast. He served in the US Navy. John was employed at Croll Reynolds, Inc. in Westfield, NJ, for over 40 years, acting as chief engineer and then president before retiring in 1992. He also served a term as president of the Heat Exchange Institute. John was an avid reader, tennis player, and golfer. He enjoyed gardening and took pride in maintaining his home. He was a wise and caring guardian to his family, who will sadly miss him. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Knoble, who passed away in 2014, and a daughter, Lynn, in 1961. Surviving are his two daughters, Gail Strelko and her husband, Edward,and Janet Hutton and her husband, Stephen; one son, John; a brother, Gene; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 No. Gaston Ave, Somerville, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Philip and St. James Cemetery, 519 US-22, Phillipsburg, NJ. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
