John "J.R." Hampton
NORTH BERWICK, Maine - John R. "J.R." Hampton, 74, of Snow's Court, passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018 at the Hyder Family Hospice in Dover, N.H. after a period of failing health. He was born in Lynn, Mass., June 22, 1944, son of Charles and Naomi (Pettipas) Hampton and graduated Saugus High School. After graduating, John enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served four years. He worked most of his life in the Tool and Dye shop for General Electric. John enjoyed relaxing and smoking his pipe. He was very competitive and loved pool and cribbage; known as a pool shark and the cribbage king. He loved drag racing in Lynn, Mass. and driving his prized Corvette and had an extensive collection of beer steins and coins. John was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Elks Lodge, all in Somersworth, N.H. He is survived by his son, Brian Fernald of Acton, Maine; four daughters, Patricia Davis of Lewiston, Maine, Constance Maresco of Limington, Maine, Joanne Maragni of Winthrop, Mass. and Becky Delorey of North Berwick, Maine; sister, Julie Gray of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren, Brooklynn, Dominic, John, Beth-Anne, Cody, Sara, Justin, Brandon and Christian; and two nieces, Janice Gray and Laura Lucero. SERVICES: A time of visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market St., North Berwick, Maine. Interment will be in the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Springvale, Maine. Arrangements are entrusted to the Johnson Funeral Home, 26 Market Street, North Berwick, Maine.
