John James Mackin of Shalimar, Florida passed away October 21st, 2019. John was born to John J Mackin Sr and Elizabeth Louise Mackin on October 5th, 1939 in Jersey City, New Jersey. He graduated from Lasalle Military Academy in 1957. In 1970, he graduated from the University of Nebraska, Omaha with a degree in law enforcement and corrections. Later in 1970 he completed Officer Candidate School at Lackland, AFB. He was a Captain in the US Air Force for 23 years and after retirement worked as insurance investigator with USAA for 15 years. When not spending time with his loving family, he enjoyed playing golf, swimming, and taking walks. He is survived by wife Mary Lou Mackin, sisters Ann Harkins and Susie Donovan. His three children, son John and wife Denise Mackin, son James Mackin, daughter Elizabeth and husband Bill Abrahamsen and his grandchildren Billy, Bay, JoDee, Madison, and Autumn and the Mother of his children Vivian Mangold. I think there's pains we will never understand this side of heaven. Losing my Grampie has been one of those pains. Gramps was a real-life angel and I'm so blessed God entrusted me with the best Grandpa ever. My Grampie was so selfless, the strongest fighter, very present in the lives of many, thoughtful & intentional for how he cared for his family, and he loved so well. My soul rejoices in the fact that he is home and I know heaven threw the biggest party when he got there. 1 John 5:11 says, "God gave us eternal life," I'm holding fast to this truth. Grampie is in the best place ever and one day we'll all be up there with him, celebrating the One who has given us life beyond this earth, forever!
