John Alan Bresnan
John Alan Bresnan, Fire Chief and resident of Homewood, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, the 10th of January, 2020 while on duty. He was 58 years of age. A member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, Chief Bresnan graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Marine Biology. He also earned his Associate Degree in Fire Service Administration and became a paramedic and firefighter. Chief Bresnan attained the rank as Chief of the Homewood Fire and Rescue Service in 1992 and served until his death making him the longest standing fire chief in the State of Alabama. He has served in numerous clubs and organizations including the Central Alabama Fire Chief's Association, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and served as past president of the Alabama Fire Chief's Association. A master story teller, Chief Bresnan LOVED his family, Bass Pro Shop, Jimmy Buffet, fishing, margaritas, and starting projects he would NOT finish. Chief Bresnan was preceded in death by his dad, John Paul Bresnan, Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Lexi Bresnan; step-son, Kyle Raburn; mother, Mrs. Bobbie Bresnan; sister, Charlotte Poe (Tommy); nephew, Blake Perry; and by his Siberian Husky, Rosco. Friends are cordially invited to the visitation on Tuesday, the 14th of January 2020 from five o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening at Rosewood Hall located inside Homewood City Hall. Full firefighter funeral services, including the Bell Ceremony and Final Call, will be conducted commencing at one o'clock in the afternoon at Homewood Church of Christ. Immediately following the service, the escorted cortege will proceed to Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville for the committal service including the Pastor's prayer, presentation of the flags, Taps, and Bagpipes. In lieu of flowers and customary remembrances, memorials honoring Chief John A. Bresnan may be directed to the mission to fight Australian Wildfires, Marine Life Conservation, or to the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel located in Homewood, Alabama.
