In memory of
Joanna Dorian Marcuz
JOANNA DORIAN MARCUZ It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce the death of Joanna Dorian Marcuz on September 7, 2016 after a brief, but hard-fought, battle with cancer. She was 45 years old. Joanna was born in Sacramento, California on March 3, 1971 to John and Linda Marcuz. She was a 1989 graduate of Eureka High School, a 1994 graduate of Humboldt State University, and a 2005 graduate of Central Michigan University where she earned her Doctoral Degree in Audiology. Upon completion of her residency in Walnut Creek, Joanna returned to Humboldt County and opened her private practice, Humboldt Audiology, where she has lovingly served her patients and her community for the past 11 years. Joanna loved the beauty and history of Humboldt County and enjoyed exploring its natural wonders. She spent nearly every weekend at her beloved Redbud Ranch in Willow Creek, tending the land, puttering in her wood shop, and building a warm and welcoming retreat for her family and friends. Joanna loved to put in a hard day's work at the ranch and then walk the property at cocktail hour with a gin and tonic in hand to survey all that had been accomplished and to plan what was next. While she valued the quiet times at the ranch, she knew how to throw an epic party as well. Friends and family will long remember the birthday, anniversary, and holiday celebrations, the annual lip sync competition (during which Joanna's performances were always a highlight), and the laughter, the dancing, and the memories made. It was Joanna's fervent wish that those celebrations continue and that her family and friends continue to make wonderful memories there. Joanna is survived by her loving wife of 20 years, Emily Weber; her mother Linda Marcuz-Kehl and her step-father Rich Kehl; her sister and brother-in-law Kerry and Len Mayer; her brother John Marcuz; sister-in-law Cindy Marcuz; her father- and mother-in-law Denis and Alcira Weber; her sister- and brother-in-law Michelle and Tim McCarty; her aunt Gene McSweeney; her uncle and aunt Jerry and Mary Marcuz; her uncle Hal Hessig; her nieces and nephews Joseph and Matthew Mayer, Brice and Jack Marcuz, Kyrie and Emma Weber, and Bianca, Stella, and Evan McCarty; her cousins Shawn, Marcus, and Michael McSweeney, and Eric, Steve, and John Marcuz. Joanna is also survived by her Humboldt Audiology family William Speer, Matthew Stuart, and Rucinda Tu. Joanna was a loving and generous woman who leaves behind a lifetime's worth of cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her father John Marcuz; her grandmother Dora Marcuz; her uncles Russ McSweeney and Paul Hessig; her brother-in-law Christopher Weber, her great-aunt Tosca Monighetti, and her great-uncle Gino Casagrande. All are invited to attend a memorial mass at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Eureka on Friday, September 23rd at 10 a.m. A celebration of Joanna's life will be held immediately following at the Elk's Lodge, 445 Herrick Avenue, in Eureka. Honorary pall bearers will be John Marcuz, Len Mayer, Jerry Marcuz, Joseph Mayer, Matthew Mayer, Brice Marcuz, Jack Marcuz, Marcus McSweeney, Michael McSweeney, and Richard Kehl. In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship fund has been established in Joanna's name through the Humboldt Area Foundation. Donations in her memory may be sent to the Humboldt Area Foundation, 363 Indianola Road, Bayside, CA 95524. Joanna made the world a brighter, better, funnier, and more loving place, and we will miss her forever. Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com
