Joan Elizabeth Counts
Joan Elizabeth "Joanie" Counts passed away at Tidewell Hospice House of Port Charlotte on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018. She was born to William and Alice Schutz in 1937 in Washington D.C. Joan graduated high school in Maryland in 1957 and moved to Japan to be with her husband, Jim. Throughout their time in the Navy she lived in many places: Japan for 5 years, Morocco for 2 years, and England for 3 years, as well as several states. She was a long time resident of Florida and retired as a health sciences instructor at Charlotte Tech College. For the last 15 years she taught Yoga at the YMCA Franz Ross center in Port Charlotte. Joan was particularly proud of her family. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Jim; daughters, Carol and Mary; son, William; sister, Carol; and many grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cherished in-laws, and beloved friends. A family celebration of her life is pending arrangements. In lieu of flowers you may make a contribution in her name to a charity of your choice.
