On Friday January 26, 2018 at 11:31 pm Jean Kathryn McDonald-Parkes passed away at her daughter's home surrounded by her loving family. Jean, daughter of Alfred and Mollie (Nothelfer) Fleming, was born March 17, 1927 in Merrill, Michigan sharing her arrival with her twin sister June. Jean was a registered nurse and teacher who served her country in the Nurse Cadet Corp during World War II. Jean was a lifelong resident of Alma, Michigan until her retirement, when she relocated to Tampa, Florida. During her long career she touched so many lives. She was the epitome of a professional nurse and even when she returned to college in her 40's and became a teacher, she continued her nursing career. One of the highlights of Jean's career was when she received the State of Michigan Educator of the Year award. In her retirement years she moved to Kings Ridge adult retirement community in Clermont, Florida where she was known and loved at the bridge table and even taught beginning bridge classes. Jean was a lifelong Catholic whose faith carried her through life. Jean was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings (Kenneth, Genevieve, Leo, and June), her first husband Frederick McDonald and her second husband Howard "Fay" Parkes. Surviving Jean are her children Stewart and Dorothy McDonald of Alma, MI; A.J and Judy McDonald of Windermere, FL and Mollie (McDonald) and Wendell Waldron of Groveland FL, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
