CREWE, Va. - James Tyler Thorne, 72, of Crewe, VA, died Sunday, August 12, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital in Richmond, VA. Born on August 21, 1945 at Petersburg, WV, he was a son of the late John Tyler and Geraldine (Shobe) Thorne. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Reta Susan (Payne) Thorne on April 8, 1998; a brother, John "Pete" Thorne and two sisters, Dot Agnew and Pauline Ours. Mr. Thorne was retired as a truck driver and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He also was a member of Nancy Hanks Post # 3518, VFW, Keyser. Surviving are his wife Jamie De'Etta (Arrington) Thorne; a son, John Thorne and wife Pam of Crewe; a sister, Judy Bible of Petersburg, WV; two grandchildren, Thomas and Shawn Dowler and a great-granddaughter, Elora Dowler. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday, August 17, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ed Hall officiating. Interment will be in the Knobley Memorial Gardens, Martin, WV. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside.
