Br. James Gerald Francis Murray CFC New Rochelle - Rev. Brother James Gerald Francis Murray C.F.C. passed away on March 20, 2020 at the age of 90. Br. Murray was born on December 9, 1929 in New York, NY, the son of John and Kathleen Murray. After entering the Christian Brothers, he went on to Iona College where he received a BA in History and Fordham University graduating with a MA in Vocational Counseling. Br. Murray was also certified in Substance Abuse Counselor Apprentice, National Board of Certified Counselors and National Restaurant Assoc. ServSafe. Brother Murray entered the Congregation of Christian Brothers on September 13, 1945 professing his final vows on September 8, 1955. His ministry took him to many schools including, St. Cecilia Grammar School, Cardinal Farley Military Academy, All Hallows High School, Sacred Heart Grammar School, Holy Cross School, St. John's Newfoundland, Rice High School, Boys Central High School, Butte, MT, Br. Rice High School, Birmingham, MI, Carroll High School Monrovia, Liberia, Protestant Methodist School, Danane, Cote D'Ivoire, Palma High School, Salinas, CA, where he volunteered at Dorothy's Kitchen preparing meals for homeless people and those experiencing extreme poverty. Most recently Brother Murray was a member of St. Joseph's Residence Community, New Rochelle, and died at the Wartburg, Mount Vernon. Br. Murray was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Donald and Francis Murray. Brother is survived by his sisters-in-law: Cherrie, Maria and Carmen as well as many nieces and nephews. Interment will be private at the Christian Brothers Cemetery in West Park, NY. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St. Joseph's Residence, 30 Montgomery Circle, New Rochelle, NY 10804.
