Howard W. Jodway 1936 - 2018 Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather OPPENHEIM, NY - Howard W. Jodway, 82, passed away on Thursday morning, September 6, 2018 in the comfort of his own home with his loving family by his side. He was born on March 28, 1936 in Malone, NY and was the son of the late John and Mary (Susice) Jodway. He attended Catholic schools in the Malone area. On May 26, 1956, Howard was united in marriage to the former Ellen L. Nelson at the Dolgeville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Jodway passed away on February 23, 2016. The couple shared almost sixty years of marriage together. Howard was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He enlisted on July 24, 1958 and was honorably discharged on July 9, 1960 after two years of service. He was formerly employed by Remington Arms in Ilion, NY as a polisher for over twenty years of service and retired in the early 2000's. Howard was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and loved his small garden. He also enjoyed casino trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Above all, Howard's most precious time was spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and his devoted wife, Ellen, took pride in caring for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout the years. Howard will be greatly missed by his beloved family and dear friends. He is survived by his loving children, Lorraine Peets and her husband, Roger of Oppenheim, NY; and his son, John Jodway of Stratford, NY; his special grandchildren, Christy Yost and her husband, Denny of Oppenheim, NY, Missy Peets and her companion, Paul of Dolgeville, NY, Jennifer Countryman and her husband, Jay of Oppenheim, NY, Rachel (Jodway) Simmons and her husband, Jose of Frankfort, NY, Joseph Jodway and his companion, Diane of New Hartford, NY and Allison Jodway and her companion, Scott of Cooperstown, NY; many cherished great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ed "Charlie" and Marlene Jodway. Howard also leaves his beloved canine companion, Molly, for whom he was so fond of. Howard was predeceased by his two sisters-in-law, Lena Dager and her husband, Andrew and Evelyn Gage and her husband, Albert; a brother-in-law, George Nelson and his wife, Betty. Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 10, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf Street, Dolgeville, NY 13329. There will be no formal funeral service. Family and friends are welcome to attend a gathering at the Dolgeville Rod and Gun Club immediately following calling hours on Monday. A Memorial Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 4 p.m. at Salisbury Rural Cemetery, Salisbury, NY, where Howard and Ellen will both be laid to rest together. The United States Army honor guard will accord full Military Honors and the Fort Plain VFW, a 21-gun salute. All are welcome to attend each service.
