Howard David "Red" Franklin
Howard David "Red" Franklin, age 87, of St. Augustine, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2018 at the Bailey Family Center for Caring, surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Hensley, West Virginia, Dave, as he was known during his childhood, entered the Air Force at a young age. After serving his country, he married Shirley Adams and together they raised their two sons in Alexandria, Virginia. "Red," as his friends called him, worked as a mechanic for the Metro System in Washington, D.C. In 1999, he relocated from Fredericksburg, VA, to St. Augustine. In his spare time, Red thoroughly enjoyed fishing with his son, Charles, and his friends at the St. Augustine Pier. He attended the Faith Baptist Church of Mandarin. A beloved husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather, all of his family endearingly called him "Pops"! He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley. He is survived by his sons, Charles Howard Franklin, and his wife, Lisa, of St. Augustine and James Allen Franklin, and his wife, Ellen, of Lorton, VA; grandchildren, Samantha D. Franklin of Woodbridge, VA, Michael D. Franklin of Palm Coast, FL, James David "J.D." Franklin, and his wife, Shelley, Christopher "Chris" D. Pacetti, and his wife, Kimberly, John T. Morrison, and his wife, Shawna, and Meghan A. Hagan, and her husband, Mark, Stephen G. Thamm and Jessica A. Thamm, all of St. Augustine; and eleven great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. A visitation, beginning at 5:00, will precede the service. Interment will take place at Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria, Virginia. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
