Helen Mary Finner
Helen Mary Finner, 92, passed away at Freighter View Assisted Living in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan Sunday evening, September 2, 2018. She said goodbye peacefully, surrounded by her family, joining her husband Harold ""Speed"" Finner on the 4th Anniversary of his passing. Helen was born on March 27, 1926 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. She married Speed at St. Mary's Parish in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on October 18, 1947. Helen is survived by her four children, Larry (Valerie) Finner, Carol (David) McCammond, Shirley Wright, and Connie (Ted) Eby. Also surviving her are her ten grandchildren, Brent and Ross Finner, Tammy (Richie) Hall, Rick (Bobbi) Mackie, Gwen and Ricky Roy, Stacey (Shaun) O'Neill, Nicholas and Megan Eby, and Allison Key, and her eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Ruth Hopper and Patricia (Fred) Snyder, brother, Charles Payment, and sister-in-law, Doris Payment. Helen was preceded in death by her brothers, Jack and William Payment, and sisters, Hazel Bergeron, Pearl Lamma, Gladys Stein, Veronica Jacobson, and Betty Lopes and her son-in-law Dale Wright. Helen was a homemaker for many years raising her four children. During those years, she dedicated much of her time to working with the community's youth with Blue Birds and Camp Fire, as well as serving on the Camp Fire Board. Helen was also a proud hockey mom and wife, offering hospitality and warmth to her son and husband's hockey teams. For many years, she was a member of the Lincoln Elementary School lunch program staff. While raising her children, she had a career baking and decorating birthday and wedding cakes for community members. She was most proud of making the wedding cakes for all four of her children. In her spare time, Helen enjoyed crafting, ceramics, cooking for her family, and enjoying the light her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought to her life. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Friday September 7, 2018 at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 7 p.m. Friday September 7, 2018 at Clark Bailey Newhouse Funeral Home with Deacon Bill Piche officiating. Helen's final resting place will be Oaklawn Chapel Gardens, joining her husband, Speed. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the EUP 308 W. 12th Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783, who assisted her in her final weeks of life, would be appreciated. Online condolences may be left at www.clarkbaileynewhouse.com.
