Commander Harold R. Outten
Commander Harold R. Outten, USN Ret. of Land O' Lakes, FL, formerly of Townsend, DE passed away on August 25th, 2017 at the age of 92. He was born on August 16, 1925 to Estella May David and the late Harold Rawlins Outten. He graduated from Middletown High School, attended Rutgers University and graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Naval Science. He retired with the rank of Commander, after having enlisted as a seaman at age 18. During his career he served on seven ships and two shore stations. On three of the ships he was Commanding Officer. He also taught at the Navy War College in Newport, RI,. After he retired from the Navy in 1972 he was employed by RCA Service Company, Sylvania Electronics Products and American Electronics Laboratories as a Contract Administrator. He married Jane Dougherty (deceased) in 1952 and had 3 children; Katie Raiser (deceased), Thomas R. Outten and Mary J Wagner. Also surviving are John Raiser, son-in-law; four grandchildren, Jennifer Burnett, Amy Wagner, Christian Outten and Elizabeth Outten, and one great-granddaughter, Avery Jane Burnett. Per Harold's wishes there will be no viewing; however, there will be a future Memorial Service at the Veterans Cemetery in Summit, DE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, 26 Broadway, New York, NY 10004.
