Gertrude Marie Andersen
Gertrude Marie Andersen, 89 "The heart of her family," she loved to read, cook, and sing Gertrude Marie Andersen, 89, passed away peacefully on Oct. 18, 2019, surrounded by her husband and children. She was born to Michael and Annette Clifford on Dec 6, 1929, and grew up in Grant City. In 1950, she married the love of her life, Carlo. They briefly lived in the Bronx but returned to Staten Island, where they settled in Dongan Hills and raised five children. Gert was a homemaker and an avid reader. She loved to cook and was blessed with a beautiful voice. A devout Catholic, she taught CCD and sang in the St. Ann's choir. She also sang with the S.I. Sweet Adelines and served as chapter president. She dedicated herself to many local organizations for the disabled and was a Meals-On-Wheels volunteer. Gert was preceded in death by her parents, 11 siblings, and beloved son, Timmy. She is survived by her husband of nearly 70 years, Carlo; their children, Christine (Joseph) Parise, Susan (Kevin) Pense, Nancy (James) Smith, Stephen (Bobbi) Andersen; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was the heart of her family, a devoted wife, loving mother and loyal friend. Her humor, thoughtful nature and kindness were an example for all. She was a beautiful person who lived a beautiful life. Visitation is at Hanley Funeral Home today, Monday, Oct. 21, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday, Oct. 22 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass is 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct 23, at St. Ann's Church. Entombment is in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to A Very Special Place, 49 Cedar Grove Ave., Staten Island, N.Y. 10306 or your favorite charity.
