In memory of
Gertrude Cozza
Gertrude Cozza Yorktown - Gertrude Cozza, age 97, died peacefully on May 21, 2019. Gertrude was born in Pittston, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Onofrio and Mary Collura. Gertrude graduated from Pittston High School and shortly thereafter moved with her family to Mt. Vernon, New York where she resided. She was a member of The Children of Mary at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mt. Vernon through 1949. Gertrude then traveled to Italy to marry Ben Cozza and within the year, returned to New York to set up residence and raise her family. Gertrude was a true homemaker, and family and friends were Gertrude's passion and delight. She loved to host and frequently entertained her family in her home—it was the gathering place for many generations of family and friends. Everyone looked forward to her delicious meals, creampuffs, and sprinkle cookies. One could find her in the kitchen cooking or baking, and when not cooking or baking, Gertrude was relaxing in her favorite chair crocheting doilies, tablecloths, or bedspreads. She is survived by her children, Frances (Thomas) Cerabona and Joseph (Barbara) Cozza of Yorktown, and Ernestina (Antonio) DiCairano of Staten Island, six grandchildren, Nancy (Steve) Scarfone, Marissa (Lino) Fabris, Jaclyn Cozza, Thomas (Anne Marie) Cerabona Jr., Paul Cozza, Michael Cerabona, and twelve great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Ben, siblings Vincent Collura, Augustine Collura, Rita Corrado, and John Collura. The family will receive friends Thursday May 23, 2019, from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at the Yorktown Funeral Home. A mass will be celebrated on Friday May 24, 2019 at 10:00AM at St. Patrick's New Church in Yorktown Heights. Entombment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Thank you to the wonderful staff of Putnam Ridge Rehabilitation Center, and the Putnam Hospital and Hospice.
