DR. GEORGE WECHSLER
Dr. George Wechsler Periodontist, Navy and Army veteran, devoted to family Dr. George Wechsler, 92, passed away peacefully in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., on Feb. 20, 2017. George was born in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, N.Y., on Nov. 15, 1924, to Lena and Samuel Wechsler. After graduating from high school, he attended Ohio State University. When World War II broke out, George enlisted as a corpsman in the Navy, then subsequently got his dental degree from the University of Minnesota. During the Korean War, he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning from his assignment overseas, he went to NYU Dental School specializing in periodontology. He enjoyed a successful periodontal practice in Staten Island for 40 years. George had a zest for life, enjoying friends, golf, travel, books, and a love of history. Above all, he was devoted to family and is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Florence; sister, Shirley Donnenfeld; children, Carrie (Phil) Weissman, Lisa (Bill) Heller, and Michael (Jill) Wechsler, as well as grandchildren, Eddie, Arielle, Rowan and Logan. Relatives and friends are invited to the graveside services today, Thursday, Feb. 23, at Cedar Park-Beth El Cemetery, Paramus, N.J. Shiva will be observed on Thursday and Friday until sundown at the home of Carrie and Phil Weissman, and on Saturday evening at the home of Jill and Michael Wechsler. Donations in George's memory may be made to Trust Bridge Hospice. (Hospice at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center).
