Walter Ernest Purvis WILMINGTON - Walter Ernest Purvis, 70, of Wilmington, NC. lost his battle with cancer on September 8, 2018. Walter was born in Robersonville, NC. on Oct. 23, 1947. He was the son of Edna House Purvis and Andrew Ernest Purvis. He graduated from East Carolina University, served in the U.S. Army and was an instructor at Beaufort County Community College in Washington, NC. and later at Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece and her husband, David and Mary Kathryn Forbes Mathis. He is survived be his sister Katherine (Charles) Forbes of Greensboro, NC. and a nephew Charles of New York, NY. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 11 at 2:00pm at Biggs Chapel in Robersonville with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Martin Memorial Gardens. The family would like to add a special thanks to the staff of Brighton Gardens Assisted Living and to Beacon Place for their care, kindness and compassion during these past months. In lieu of flowers, gifts of remembrance may be made to Robersonville First Christian Church, 126 N. Main St., Robersonville, NC. 27871 or Beacon Place, 2502 Summit Ave. Greensboro, NC. 27405.
