In memory of
Virginia L. Lemoine
Virginia L. Lemoine, born September 12, 1926 in Fifth Ward, LA and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Sunrise Assisted Living at the age of 93. She was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Lemoine Jr; her parents, Ulysses and Ida Lemoine; and a sister, Rita Lemoine Montelaro. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne (Norman) Ryan; son, David (Bridget) Lemoine; grandchildren, Norman (Elizabeth) Ryan Jr., Kathryn (Armand) Ryan Michaud, Corey (Jennifer) Lemoine, and Casey Lemoine; three great grandchildren, Jack Ryan, Virginia "Vivi" Ryan, and Eli Lemoine. Known to most as "Granny", Virginia dedicated her career to education, teaching at Fifth Ward, St. Gerard Magella and St. Anthony Catholic Schools until her retirement in 1991, and in later years coming out of retirement to teach at St. Louis King of France. She took great pride in her former students, and pointed out their accomplishments routinely. She established herself as the foremost authority on Crawfish Bisque and Chicken Stew, and she held the standard by which all others will forever be measured. Also of note, Virginia dedicated hours each December creating holiday candies for friends and family, of which her son, David, consistently received a disproportionate amount. Virginia represented to all who knew her humility, patience, and the deepest compassion. She was profoundly strong in adversity, and maintained a persistent sense of hope and faith. The world is undoubtedly a much better place because of her, and she will be deeply missed. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation which will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Friday, February 14, 2020 from 9:30 am until the service time at 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Masses of intention and donations be made in her name to: Redemptorist St. Gerard Majella Catholic School, ATTN: Ashley Pizzolato, 3655 St. Gerard Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70805. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living and Hospice of Baton Rouge.
