In memory of
Virginia “Ginger” L. Britt
Britt, Virginia "Ginger" L. July 25, 1936 - October 27, 2019 Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Ginger Britt passed away unexpectedly on October 27 in Fullerton, California. Ginger Morris was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and grew up in Torrance, California. After earning her degree from California State University, Long Beach, Ginger entered a long and distinguished career teaching elementary school. Ginger married Chet Britt at Wayfarer's Chapel in San Pedro, California, in December 1959. When the first of their four children was born, the couple moved to Fullerton, California, where they made a loving home for their family, and served their community for nearly 60 years. Ginger was an active member of Children's League while all of her children attended pre-school, and met lifelong friends through her work with that nonprofit organization. She had a huge love for learning and not only taught in Fullerton schools for more than 30 years, but worked with a team for the State of California on improving teaching methods for reading and writing. In addition, as an early STEAM supporter, and anticipating the need for all children to learn through ever-changing technology, Ginger spent many years writing grant proposals to fund additional resources for children at Laguna Road Elementary School, and the school's technology lab was named after her in recognition of this work. After retirement, Ginger became an active supporter of the Fullerton Public Library, at various times serving on the library board, running the library's bookstore, and volunteering with the library's Amazon book sales. She always made sure to work the library book sales whenever she could. Ginger continued her own life-long love of learning by being a member of two book clubs with spirited discussion and great friendships. Ginger is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Chet; children, Daniel, Christopher and his wife Frances, Christina Torcasso and her husband Michael, and Melissa; seven grandchildren; and her brother, Richard Morris. Services will be held on Friday, November 8, at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Fullerton at 838 N. Euclid. A reception will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fullerton Public Library, 353 W. Commonwealth Ave., Fullerton 92832.
