Mary Ann McKaig Aug. 9, 1928 - May 14, 2019 OKLAHOMA CITY Mary Ann McKaig was born Aug. 9, 1928, in Enid, OK to Velvie Bridal, a pharmacist and Mary Homan Bridal, a teacher. She was an only child and grew up in Crescent. Mary Ann graduated Crescent High School in 1946. In 1950, she received a degree in English from The University of Oklahoma, where she served as President of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. In 1950, she married Jack McKaig, and in 1956, they moved with their two children to Venezuela, where Jack worked for Exxon as a petroleum engineer until retiring to Crescent. In Venezuela, Mary Ann was a homemaker who was active as a Sunday school teacher, a substitute teacher, a Cub Scout den mother and a Girl Scout leader. She participated in charity work at a barrio school for poor children. She enjoyed Bridge, golf, bowling and book clubs. She was a leader in all her endeavors. Mary Ann was especially a lifelong avid reader. In retirement, she once again participated at the First Christian Church in Crescent, where her parents and grandparents had been members. She was a loving and supportive wife and a patient and nurturing mother. She was invariably cheerful and had strong character. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Jack McKaig; son, Mike McKaig, of Oklahoma City; daughter, Patty Smith & husband Bruce, of Edmond; grandsons, Tanner Smith and Brandon Smith, of Oklahoma City; and her two great- grandchildren, Trent and Serenity Smith. Family graveside service at Crescent Cemetery on Friday, May 17 at 10 a.m.
