Lawrence J. Scanlon Jr.
Lawrence J. Scanlon, Jr., 83, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. He was born in Taunton son of the late Lawrence J. and Melissa (Dunn) Scanlon. He was husband to the late Phyllis F. (Pimental) Scanlon. Larry grew up in Taunton and graduated from Taunton High School. He served his country in the Army from 1957 to 1959. He was granted early discharge so that he could help care for his family after his father had suffered a stroke. Because he was home, he attended a family wedding where he met his loving wife Phillis. Larry obtained his Bachelors Degree in Business from Bryant College in 1964 and taught typing and business classes at Bristol High School in Bristol, RI from 1964-1990. Larry and Phyllis square danced together for over 20 years. They were members of the Silver City Twirlers and Cupid Squares. Survivors include two daughters, Susan DeLeo and her husband Paul of Raynham, and Shayne Martin and her husband Carl of Taunton; five grandchildren, Sara, Malory, Nathan, Desiree, and Jesse; three great grandsons, Henry, Xavier, and Deion; and three nephews in New Jersey. He was also brother to the late John Scanlon and Patricia Smythe. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 12, 9:00 at the Crapo Hathaway Funeral Home, 350 Somerset Ave, Taunton followed by a Mass of Christian burial in St. Andrew the Apostle, 19 Kilmer Avenue, Taunton.
