In memory of
Larry E. Stewart
Larry E. Stewart, age 67, of Middletown, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018. Larry was born in Mt. Pleasant, Delaware Jan. 13, 1951 to Gilbert E. and Gertrude (Ford) Stewart. He was the 19th child of 19 children. Larry enlisted in the Army Feb. 29, 1968. During his time of service, he completed two tours in Vietnam and was honorably discharged April 19, 1971. All of Larry's life he has had a passion for bikes, hot rods and muscle cars. In the 80s, Larry started building cars out of his garage at home on weekends and after work in Chestnut Hills Est. His builds started gaining notoriety in the late 90s after Larry moved to Porter Road. In 1992, Larry took Duane Snyder under his wing and started a small business. After deciding he wanted more land and a bigger shop, Larry was able to find a property that suited his growing hot rod needs and moved to Middletown in 1999. In 2001 he formed Stewart's Rod Shop. There have been many articles published in multiple magazines after these masterpieces would catch the eye of judges at the shows attended. Through 2013 they became nationally known for building award winning hot rods. Together with Duane and crew the customer base grew to the point they needed space outside the shop at his home. So he co-founded a shop in town, ONE OFF ROD AND CUSTOM, which he ran for about five years until he retired and sold the business to Gary Corkell. Larry will be known as one of the best visionaries in the industry. Larry was a great teacher to everyone around him.
