James H. 'Jimmy' Burns Jr. , 75 Retired master plumber enjoyed conversation, history, reading, baking, and weekend fishing trips with lifelong friends James H. "Jimmy" Burns Jr, 75, peacefully entered eternity on April 6, 2019, surrounded by his family in his home. James suffered with dementia. Thankfully he knew his family up until the end. James was born on June 10, 1943, in Sunnyside Hospital on Staten Island and raised in West Brighton. He attended Blessed Sacrament School, P.S. 30 and graduated McKee High School in 1963. James was drafted to serve in the Army as a sergeant and sharpshooter in Germany from 1965 to 1967. In 1967 he married the love of his life, Liz Wimmer; they resided in Westerleigh for over 50 years. After his time in the service, James became a plumber's apprentice that would lead him to receive his NYC Master Plumber license. Upon receiving his license, he became self employed as owner/operator of James H. Burns Plumbing and Heating. He was self employed until 1989, when he joined the NYC Department of Health and Hospitals. James retired from Harlem Hospital in 2007. James had many hobbies and interests, including reading, antiquing, history, baking, weekend fishing trips with lifelong friends and he had a love of nostalgia. He loved good conversation and having people around where they could pull up a chair and have a good visit. He loved his family most of all. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth (Liz Wimmer) Burns; children, Patrick (Doreen) Burns, Daniel (Gina) Burns, James H. Burns III, Erin (John) McAndrew, and Brendan (Kim) Burns; grandchildren, Grace, Ruby, Evelyn, Jack, Brendan, Mary, Patrick, James, Anna and Gus; sister, Patricia Kane; brothers, Joseph and Timothy Burns, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, James Burns; mother, Katherine Burns; and sisters, Mary Lou Beaulieu and Katherine Burns. Services are being handled by Casey Funeral Home.Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 11, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Friday, April 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at Holy Family Church. Burial will follow at St Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted at Good Counsel, 303 Madison St., Hoboken, N.J. 07030.
