Gladys E. Lemley WIND GAP Gladys E. Lemley, 86, of Wind Gap, passed away peacefully, Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019, at Gracedale, Northampton County Home. She was the wife of the late, Raymond J. Lemley, Jr., who passed away on July 2, 2008. Born in Easton, June 28, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Russell C. and Wavel G. (Stevenson) Karcher. She was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church in Wind Gap and was previously a member of Hope UCC in Wind Gap, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Gladys was a 1951 graduate of Phillipsburg High School and was a diehard Pburg football fan. She was a homemaker and worked along side her husband running RJ Lemley Hardware, until retiring in 1985. She enjoyed baking, gardening, and playing the piano. She sent care packages of cookies to all her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and gave away countless Christmas cookies and pies to friends and others in the community. She spent her life loving her family and serving others. She was an avid fund-raiser for the American Cancers Society; organizing door-to-door campaigns, running a Bowl Down for Cancer at Blue Valley Lanes, Wind Gap, coordinating Daffodil Day sales at Kmart, Wind Gap and helping with the first Relay for Life in the Slate Belt. In recent years, up until May of this year, she served meals every Monday with Riverside Ministry in Easton, where everyone called her "grandma", sewed sleeping bags with My Brother's Keeper at Hope UCC church, and volunteered at Gracedale, playing the piano at chapel services. She always had a smile and a kind word to everyone with whom she came in contact. She is survived by a son, Richard Lemley and his wife, Sharon, of Midlothian, TX; a daughter, Marsha Horvath and her husband, Steven, of Pen Argyl, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Zion Presbyterian Church, Water Street, Wind Gap. There will be viewing hours only, Tuesday evening beginning at 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Ruggiero Funeral Home, LLC, www.ruggierofuneralhome.com , 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl.
