East Hartford - Gary Mrouse, 61, most recently of East Hartford, passed away after a hard-fought battle with lung cancer on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018, at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born on Aug. 8, 1957, in Middletown and raised in Old Saybrook, Gary is the son of Martin Mrouse and the late Elise (Waltemathe) Mrouse. Gary was a hard-working night crew chief for Stop and Shop. He loved the New York Giants, camping at Hammonasset State Park and word search puzzles. He is survived by his father and step-mother, Martin and Elizabeth Mrouse of Gales Ferry; brother, James Mrouse of Old Saybrook; stepson, Jayson Rahmann and his wife, Tabitha, of Killingworth; daughter, Carissa Mrouse of Nashua, N.H.; sons, Nathaniel Mrouse of Brooklyn and Christian Mrouse and his wife, Brittany, of Moosup; grandchildren, Mackenzie, Natalie and Izaac; and former wife, Cynthia Mrouse of Brooklyn. He is predeceased by his mother, Elise; and his brother, Clifford Mrouse. The family would like to thank the nurses on Conklin 5 and Bliss 11 Stepdown for the compassionate care and respect they showed Gary during his time at Hartford Hospital. The family is planning a private graveside service on Sept. 29, 2018. There will be a celebration of Gary's life afterwards for friends and family.
