In memory of
FREDERICK C. GOODWIN Sr.
GOODWIN, Frederick C. Sr. Of Reading, formerly of Arlington, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 11, 2020. Beloved husband of the late Miriam (Barsamian) Goodwin; father of Steven, the late Fred C. Goodwin, Jr., Bill and his wife Maura, Linda and her husband Mike Gillen, Jean and her partner Carol Weston; grandfather of Rachel and her husband Shane Vergari, Clark and his husband Carlos, Kathleen, Lauren, and Stephen Goodwin; and great-grandfather of Sophia, Grace and Charlie Vergari. Fred also leaves behind devoted caretaker and friend, Judy Donnelly. Fred was a Naval Veteran and recently received the Veteran's Medal for 50 years as a Master Mason. Fred enjoyed the outdoors for most of his life – never missing the opportunity for a pick-up basketball game, swim, run, skiing, or a family day at the beach, and during golden years of retirement, a brisk walk around Lake Quannapowitt or sitting under the trees with Miriam. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his many friends in choir/chorale or playing pool and bridge at the Reading, Wakefield and Melrose Senior Centers. Fred was an avid reader, reading a book or two every week throughout his life. He followed all sports, both college & pro, men & women, often quoting outstanding teams and player statistics. Fred will be missed for his optimism and happiness, and of course, the many, long stories he could not wait to tell you…A Visitation will be held at Douglass, Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home on Saturday, January 25, 2020 from 11am-1:30pm followed by a brief prayer service at 1:30pm. Burial will be private at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred's memory may be made to Reading Public Library, 64 Middlesex Avenue, Reading, MA 01867.
